About the Lower Order Road Design Guideline
The Lower Order Road Design Guidelines (LORDG) specify minimum standards for the design and construction of lower order road assets and provide practitioners with a risk-based approach to capital improvements.
As the lower order road network accounts for over 70% local and state-controlled networks throughout Queensland, this approach allows stakeholders to maximise the return on funds invested.
One-day training courses are available for key stakeholders to achieve a common understanding of the risk management strategies and how they apply at each stage of the design and construction process from concept through to completion.
UPDATED 2nd Edition, May 2024
The Second Edition of our Lower Order Road Design Guideline was release in May 2024, for details see our Media Release.
The First Edition was released in 2016 and has been extremely popular and widely adopted by the public works civil engineering sector across Queensland and beyond. In this Second Edition we now provide guidance for traffic volumes up to 250 vehicles per day and design speeds up to 110km/hr. There are numerous other topics that have been included in this edition based on feedback and requests from our Review Committee.
The Second Edition now also new maps for design for wet conditions stopping sight distance calculations. To assist with this design process IPWEA-QNT now provide a more detailed Google map is available at this link
