Road Safety Audit Workshop

Road Safety Audits are an integral part of the safe system approach at all stages of the road construction and maintenance process. The objective of a road safety audit is to identify foreseeable hazards for all road users.

The road safety audit process provides a reasonable, but not absolute, hazard identification method for all road users, focusing on reducing fatal and serious injuries.

Erosion and Sediment Control Level 2

The Erosion and Sediment Control Level 2 course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to assess, identify and comply with requirements related to managing Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) on their worksites.

This course is delivered in partnership with Terry Clark of Topo.

The content of this course is based on the “Best Practice Erosion and Sediment Control” (IECA, 2008) and subsequent updates, as well as referencing other applicable industry documents. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on current best practice requirements, compliance requirements along with an appreciation of how to manage the risk to both the environment and the project.

Attendees are not required to have completed the Level 1 course prior to enrolling for the Level 2 course.

AS4000

After 27 years, the Australian Standard General Conditions of Contract, AS4000, is receiving an update.

Spray Seal Construction and Failure Review

Reduce the risk of failures, maximise your value for money and minimise liability by constructing and designing a sprayed seal which will suit the traffic, pavement and environmental conditions using a rational, reliable, proven approach.

This course focuses on when and where sprayed treatments can be used by introducing participants to the strengths and weaknesses of the various types of sprayed treatments commonly used including the types of surface defects that may be corrected. It will also cover how to bitumen sprayer works and limitations and also covers a number of different failures and their causes

Assessing Heavy Vehicle Access to Bridges

With the ever-increasing drive to improve the productivity of our road freight network, road agencies are continually being asked to assess requests for access to their road and bridge network. Bridge access is a critical link in this productivity improvement drive but understanding how to assess access requires a level of specialist knowledge and understanding.

This one-day program is designed to provide the participant with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of assessing heavy vehicle access to bridges, including industry terminology nuances and the various ways of assessing heavy vehicle access to bridges. The differences between heavy vehicle access assessments and bridge assessments will be covered, along with approaches to rapid assessment and managing consultants.

Bridge Maintenance & Repair Practices

The course is designed to provide asset custodians, engineers and, asset management practitioners experience in the management of bridge repairs.

The course focuses on typical maintenance management practices and applying an asset management lens on them, including implementation of strategies and application of prioritisation practices to maximise the value of the maintenance activities to the network.  The course is framed around bridges and major culverts, however the practices are applicable to all transport structures.

Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act

Security of Payment in the construction industry has always been an issue that has been hotly debated and impacted by changes in Queensland's regulatory landscape.

Concrete Pathway/Cycleway Design & Construction

Concrete pathways and cycleways are an important and integral consideration in the planning and design of subdivisions, roads, open spaces and other environments where people and active transport devices need to travel.  There are a variety of design aspects that must be considered to provide appropriate, long-lasting and economical concrete paths irrespective of location, size, cost or complexity.

IPWEA-QNT, in collaboration with Danley, we are pleased to offer a workshop on Concrete Pathway Design ‘based on relevant industry guidelines and standards.

The course will provide designers and practitioners with information to appropriately design, construct and maintain concrete pathways and cycleways, through the knowledge and guidance provided by experienced industry design professionals.

What Our Clients Say

Dion Jones
Director Engineering Services
Goondiwindi Regional Council

Recently, Goondiwindi Regional Council received funding from the State Government’s TMR - Statewide Capability Development Fund to upskill staff in Native Title and Cultural Heritage compliance for infrastructure projects. Due to the additional costs of accommodation and potential loss of productivity in sending multiple staff to other locations for training we can only usually afford to send a very small handful of staff away at any one time.

IPWEA-QNT were able to provide this training course, combined with a neighbouring Council, over two days to share costs and upskill more staff in a shorter, more cost effective time frame. The convenience of holding the training less than two hours away meant that Council was able to upskill 15 staff members who only required travel to and from the course on the day that they were allocated to attend. The benefits of IPWEA-QNT tailoring this training course to suit our needs meant we were able to upskill more staff and the potential for loss of productivity was minimised.
