The role of a Supervisor in the Civil or Public Works sectors requires a  broad range of knowledge and skills. Not only does the supervisor need specific technical skills, they must also be skilled at planning, scheduling, estimation, logistics and project management. They must also be able to communicate, lead and develop people, maintain harmony and efficiency, while maintaining safety on the worksite.

Facilitator

David Bell, Regional Projects Manager, Proterra Group 

David Bell holds an Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering through the University of Southern Queensland, and has over 35 years experience within the Road Construction and Maintenance industry. David began his career as a Construction Technician with the Department of Main Roads in North Queensland. After 12 years with the Department, he expanded his road industry knowledge as a Maintenance Superintendent in local government with Cairns City Council. Following that, 12 years industry experience in Asphalt & Bitumen Spray sealing Industry, having worked for Pioneer North Queensland, and then moving to South East Queensland at Allens Asphalt, post this was 8 years as the Regional Manager for the South Queensland area for Stabilised Pavements of Australia Pty Ltd. His current role epitomises the encompassing knowledge and experiences gained throughout his career so far, as is currently employed by Proterra Group in Toowoomba as Regional Projects Manager responsible for managing DRFA and civil projects throughout the regional areas of Queensland and New South Wales. 


Lowanna Dunn, Facilitation and Coaching 

Lowanna is a highly engaging facilitator and coach who delivers dynamic, embodied, and challenging learning experiences to facilitate insight and growth in both face to face and virtual environments. With a background in the Creative Industries, Lowanna draws on over 25 years’ experience as an educator, facilitator, program designer and coach to create learning experiences that help individuals and teams to collaborate, learn and grow. Specialising in areas of leadership, communication, cultural transformation, personal and professional development; and grounded in the neuroscience of human behaviour, she creates learning environments which build capacity through deep rapport and engagement. She advocates a ‘hand-on’ experiential approach to learning to help participants engage physically, intellectually and emotionally in the learning space for a lasting impact. Having lived and worked outside of Australia for over a decade, Lowanna understands the subtleties and sensitivities of diversity, inclusion and cross-cultural navigation when bringing people together. Over the past decade Lowanna has brought her extraordinary energy and collaborative approach to a variety of clients including non-profits, government (state, local and regional), emergency services, health, retail, engineering, professional services, the arts and finance sectors.
