Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Guidelines
As a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), you occupy a position of trust and responsibility in the community, industry and across government. To ensure your skills and knowledge remain up to date, an RPEQ must engage in regular structured Continuing Professional Development (CPD). As a minimum, an RPEQ must undertake 150 hours of structured professional development in any given three year period.
The IPWEAQ assessment scheme includes (150 hours over three years):
- Attendance at IPWEAQ courses and conferences (unlimited hours)
- Contributions to IPWEAQ Working Groups (max 50 hours)
- Formal post-graduate study (unlimited)
- Private study, including reading Engineering for Public Works (max 18 hours)
- On the job learning (max 75 hours)
- Preparation of articles for publication in Engineering for Public Works, or papers for delivery at IPWEAQ conferences (max 45 hours per paper)

These guidelines outline the types of professional development activities considered acceptable to meet the minimum requirements to attain and retain RPEQ status.
